What Is Mobdro?

Whether you’re a streaming veteran or more recently cut the cord, you might be wondering what else is out there besides Netflix and Hulu. Unlike these subscription-based streaming services with limited video libraries, Mobdro pulls content from a wide variety of online sources at zero cost to the user.

Put simply: Mobdro is a third-party, online streaming service that allows users to watch Live TV for free.

This unique tool constantly crawls the internet for free streams and makes them accessible on your mobile device or Android TV. Users can even download TV shows, movies, and other media directly to their Android device to watch offline.

For those that love to stream videos online, but don’t want to shell out more money for streaming subscriptions, Mobdro may be the solution you’re looking for.

What Is Mobdro?

If Netflix and Hulu changed the way we watch TV, then Modbro brings us back to our roots.

With Mobdro, instead of choosing the exact TV episode or movie that you want to watch, you select categories or channels to see what’s streaming live.

Mobdro has been around for years and continues to evolve and adapt to new technologies. It has a vast library with millions of videos across hundreds of sources.

Today, the popular app can be run on nearly any device that supports Android, including smartphones, tablets, Roku, Firestick, and Chromecast. It is even possible to run Mobdro on a PC, although the software is not natively available for Windows.

Mobdro Features

Mobdro offers a wide range of great features that separate the app from other streaming software.

Some of the top features include:

  • Unlimited Content – Mobdro provides access to more than 100 TV channels across 12 categories.
  • Fewer Ads – Users will experience fewer ads on Mobdro compared to other streaming services. With the premium version, the viewing experience is ad-free.
  • Offline Downloads – With Mobdro, users can download content while offline.
  • Software Support – While Mobdro might be free, the developers still provide support and actively fix bugs.
  • Easy Search & Save – The videos on Mobdro can be sorted based on topic and language. Videos can also be bookmarked.

Pros and Cons

One of Modbro’s biggest benefits is the ability to access any video stream on the web.

This means that Mobdro has one of the largest databases available.

Even though the streams are curated from the web, you don’t need an active internet connection. Free content can be downloaded from the web to view offline.

Similar to other streaming services, you can change your video resolution to fit your needs.

The interface is user-friendly and the application installation process takes just a few moments to complete.

Of course, there are some downsides to using Mobdro.

Mobdro is only compatible with a few platforms – most notably Android and Android TV. So you won’t be able to download it onto your iOS device.

Additionally, it does include some copyright-protected content, which could potentially result in legal issues.

Finally, unless you allow Mobdro to use your idle system resources, you’ll have to deal with ads with the free version.

Mobdro vs. Kodi

Mobdro is often compared to Kodi, but in reality they’re quite different. Both apps are easy to use and can stream TV shows, movies, podcasts, documentaries, and other media.

However, that’s where the similarities end.

Unlike Mobdro, Kodi is a media center. It’s designed to play content that you already own and store somewhere on your network. It supports nearly all video and audio formats which makes it compatible on Windows, iOS, OSX, Linux, Raspberry Pi, and Android.

However, once users started creating add-ons to connect Kodi to free or paid streaming services, such as Amazon and Netflix, it’s popularity took off.

When it comes right down to it, Mobdro is a much better streaming platform than Kodi, but it can’t play your local media files like Kodi can.

There’s one more major difference, Mobdro is ad supported, by default.

Even if you elect to skip the ads, you’re still using idle system resources to help fund the service.

Kodi, on the other hand, is truly completely free. The app is open-source and user-supported. All development funds are provided by the app’s official advertisers – Flirc, Bytemark, and Acquia, or by donations.

How Does Mobdro Work?

Mobdro gives users access to video streams in multiple languages from around the world.

Although the app provides a range of streams, not all are continually available. The streams may change from one day to the next, so don’t count on any particular channel always being there.

However, player history is available so you can keep track of streams you like. You can also recommend videos to let others know what they are watching.

Of course, there are alternatives to Mobdro that you can try if you’re looking for something in particular, such as Thoptv, Morph TV, Tea TV, Cyberflix TV, and Terrarium TV.

Mobdro Channels List

Mobdro organizes its content into twelve main categories, including the following:

  • Channels – Gain access to popular TV channels like HGTV, CBS, ABC, and the History channel.
  • News – Stream the latest news from NBC News, CNN International, CNBC News, Fox News, and other news sources.
  • Shows – Select this category to watch popular TV series, such as The Simpsons, Family Guy, and The Big Bang Theory.
  • Movies – Watch movies in all genres, from comedies and adventures to action and horror.
  • Sports – Here you’ll find a plethora of sports-related content, such as ESPN and ESPN 2.
  • Music – Stream music-oriented TV channels, such as VH1 and MTV.
  • Gaming – Watch gamer live streams of today’s most popular games, such as Minecraft and Fortnite.
  • Animals – See live ocean cams and other animal-oriented content.
  • Tech – The tech category includes streams relating to all things tech, such as NASA TV.
  • Podcast – Gain access to some of the top podcasts, such as TedTalks and The Ellen Show.
  • Spiritual – Here you’ll find audio and video of spiritual-related content.
  • Others – This category includes all other content that does not fall into the above categories.

Download & Installing Mobdro

Downloading and installing Mobdro can be a little tricky because you can’t just go to the Google Play Store and download it. This means that you will need to sideload it on to your Android TV.

However, the easiest way to install Mobdro is if you have Aptoide TV installed.

If you plan on using Mobdro for PC, you will need an Android emulator, such as BlueStacks, to download the software.

After downloading BlueStacks, launch the app and type “Mobdro Apk” into the search box at the top of the page. From there, you can install Mobdro and use BlueStacks to launch and run it on your PC.

Adding Mobdro to Smart TVs, such as Sony, Samsung, and LG, is similar to sideloading it on a smartphone, tablet or TV box.

Using the Mobdro App

Like many other streaming services, Mobdro is organized to make it easy to find something to watch.

You can choose to stream live TV by clicking on the ‘Channels’ category, or may choose one of the other categories based on preference. After selecting a category, you can choose a movie, episode, or stream from the available list.

Remember that you can only watch what is currently being streamed. You cannot pick a specific film or episode if it’s not currently streaming.

A search button is available at the top of the app that allows users to type in the show or stream that they are looking for.

By clicking on the three horizontal lines located in the upper left-hand corner of the screen, users can see their “Favorites.” You can add new shows or streams to your Favorites by tapping the three dots and selecting “Favorite.”

There are other great features available to users with the Mobdro app. Tapping on “Live” will provide a list of all streaming videos currently “on air.”

Users can also modify the settings of their app to customize it better. You can enable app updates and hardware decoding. You can also control what streams are shown in your preferred language, as well as sort streams alphabetically.

There has been a lot of controversy surrounding Mobdro, its safety and its legality.

Technologies often evolve at a much quicker pace than the law which leaves some grey area in terms of what is legal or not. However, there are certain legal and security aspects to understand when using Mobdro to avoid problems down the road.

Mobdro is not available in the Google Play Store which does throw up some red flags.

Like many free television streaming services, the content available may be considered pirated and the legal ramifications of watching copyrighted content will depend on your country.

Mobdro states that they have no control over the content or location of the streams, and are not liable for any live streams that come from pirated sources.

However, there has yet to be any reports of people being criminally charged for watching streams, and the overall threat of imprisonment or other penalties is fairly low.

In any regard, always read and understand the app’s users agreement before installing Mobdro onto any device.

Is Mobdro Safe?

Unlike apps on the Google Play Store which are vetted for viruses and other malicious files, Mobdro is a third-party app which leaves a device open to attacks from harmful APK files.

That being said, Mobdro has been deemed relatively safe when downloaded through the official website.

The safety of Mobdro also depends on how you use the app.

If you only use it to stream entirely free content from reputable websites, there isn’t much to worry about. Avoid streaming illicit content that could result in security or legal issues.

Also, remember that your internet service provider (ISP) monitors your online activity and downloading or watching pirated or copyrighted content could get you into trouble.

Remember, when in doubt, it’s wise to use a VPN service to help cover your tracks and stay anonymous on the Internet. Personally, I use IPVanish on all my streaming devices. You can read my review of IPVanish on Android TV here.
